How To Make Dal Palak
INGREDIENTS:
· 1 small cup Dal
· 1 bunch palak spinach
· Cooking oil( I used coconut oil)
· cumin seeds
· 5 clove garlic
· 1 inch chopped ginger.
· 2 chopped green chilies
· Kari leave
· 1 sliced Onion
· ½ tsp red
chili powder
· ¼ tsp asafetida (hing).
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1: Take a Dal in
a vessel and rinse it. Pressure cook the lentils with 1 tsp coconut
oil or piece of grated coconut for 1 or 2 whistles (coconut oil help to boil lentils
quickly even in hard water). Mash the lentils and keep aside.
Step 2: Wash 1 bunch palak spinach
leaves. Chop them finely and keep aside.
Step 3: In a pan or kadai,
heat 2 or 3 tbsp oil. Fry 1 tsp cumin seeds, when the cumin seeds sizzle, add 5
clove garlic, 1 inch chopped ginger. Fry for a few seconds until the raw aroma
of ginger goes away.
Step
4: Add 1 to 2 chopped green chilies, and
fry for few seconds. Then add Kari leave fry for few seconds.
Step 5:
Add 1 sliced onion and fry till it turns golden brown. Then add ¼ tsp asafetida (hing).
Step 6:Now Add Finely
chopped spinach leaves pour half glass of water, ½ tsp red chili powder
and Mix these with the spinach and saute the spinach for some minutes stirring
in between till the spinach leaves wilt and cooked very well.
If you want a very thick dal with roti:
Step 7: Add the mashed lentils and
salt as per your taste. Mix the cooked lentils with the spinach. Simmer
the dal for 1-2 minutes. Keep stirring continuously
However, if you want a smooth dal with curry then
Step 7: Add mashed lentils and then add water to the dal. (The
quantity of water will depend on how much thick or thin you want the dal palak
to be) Then Add salt and mix. Simmer for 5 to 6 minutes.
Serve the dal palak hot with rice, roti, chapathi.
